British Values and SMSC

At Joydens Wood Infant School we ensure our children have:

‘A happy and safe place to learn and grow’

We recognise that providing our children with rich Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural development is essential to preparing them to be well rounded and respectful British Citizens.

We ensure that our children understand and uphold the fundamental British Values of:

  • Democracy
  • The rule of law
  • Individual liberty
  • Mutual respect for and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs and for those without faith

Our strategy

We ensure that our school embraces these fundamental values by having a clear and purposeful approach by:

  • Intertwining our school values with the fundamental British Values
  • Everyone embracing our vision and ethos for our school
  • Ensuring our safeguarding procedures are upheld by; our children, staff and all stakeholders in our community
  • Giving ownership of choices to the children through an active school council and by a responsibility based approach to behaviour and learning
  • Valuing everyone’s voice – enabling children to debate, negotiate and draw together ideas during every learning opportunity
  • Discussing real and relevant topics with our children through daily collective worship and assemblies
  • Having a broad and inspiring PSHE curriculum which links our school values with British values
  • Planning a range of extra-curricular events that enhance learning opportunities within core/foundation subjects which encompass all aspects of SMSC
  • Making links with our local community through arranging fundraising and cultural events
