Trying to teach our children the importance of healthy eating and nutrition is a constant nightmare for many parents.
We are all aware of the numerous benefits that good nutritious food choices has for our children, including: supporting general health and growth, reducing the risk of weight gain and diabetes type 2, fostering long term healthy habits and improving mood levels to optimise learning; BUT I hear so many parents cry, “How do I get my child to eat such foods?”
Here at Joydens Wood Infant School, we have been running school lunch development workshops with our children. Once a week we hold a masterclass where pupils get to make dishes for our upcoming menus. This gives them the opportunity to explore the ingredients that go into their food, ask questions and reduce the anxiety that can be present around food. Once they have created the dish, they taste it and vote on whether they would like to see it on the menu.
Alongside the masterclasses for children, we are holding a Parent Workshop on Thursday 23rd November at 1.00pm to allow parents to cook recipes that the children enjoy for school lunch and create some new dishes to support their eating at home. I will be on hand to answer any questions you may have regarding food choices and healthy eating.
Please come along and meet myself, Mrs Quinn, and have some fun with food. I look forward to seeing you all!
If you would like to book a place, then please contact the school office.
