Spring has sprung in Year 2!

By 10th January 2018Year 2

We are very excited to have begun our new topic of Castles and Year Two have already demonstrated a great understanding and knowledge of castles. We have learnt all the different parts of a castle, why they are there and what we think might happen if they were not there. Ask your children why some castles have a moat, what the arrow loops were designed for and what was so important about the drawbridge and portcullis?

We have started our new book The Princess and the White Bear King and the children have had a go at using persuasive language, designing a crown for the princess and trying to persuade the King that their crown is the best one and that it should be picked!

In Maths we have been learning about time. The children are really quite good at this! We have moved quickly onto telling the time to quarter past and quarter to the hour on an analogue clock – if you could practise this at home that would be great! Next week we are moving onto the 5 minute intervals – which are Greater Depth expectation for Year 2!

We are so excited for our school trip on Friday to Leeds Castle so that we can see a real castle up close in person and see if we can spot any parts of a castle that we have learnt about – let’s hope it doesn’t rain! Please remember to send your children to school with jumper that has the school logo and a named disposable water bottle.
