A chilly start to the new term…

By 8th November 2017November 14th, 2017Year 2

We have settled well into our new term and our new topic of Antarctica. The children have learnt some very tricky terminology so far this term including personification and similes. They have used both personification and similes to describe the landscape of Antarctica and animals they may find there. They have really enjoyed this topic so far and we are excited to see where it leads.

*At home task* Research what you might find in Antarctica and why this is different to the Arctic?

In Maths so far this term we have been looking at different types of bar models and using these to solve two step problems and problems that involve finding the difference. We have also introduced measurement using cm’s this week.

*At home task* Can you measure some objects around your house? What about measuring yourself or your family members? Can you order them in height order?

We have been so proud of the children during their class assemblies this term; being the first in the school to perform, we think they have handled this responsibility really well. Ash and Sycamore classes were also chosen to sing to the Mayor of Dartford, who joined us in assembly today. We are really looking forward to Maple Class’ assembly next week.

Please remember to log into Mathletics; we have some very competitive members of Year 2 who are keen to go up against their peers but are struggling to find competitors!!

We will be logging in and seeing which members of Year 2 have taken up the challenge.
