We cannot believe how quickly the first term in Year 2 has zoomed by. The children have gone from strength to strength in their learning across the curriculum and it feels like we have accomplished so much during the time we have had together so far.
We have been really excited to meet our Reception class buddies this week; we spent time with them in their learning environment, finding out a little bit more about them. We explored outside and inside and they really enjoyed showing us all the things they can do in their classes.
Back in our classrooms, Year 2 have been working extremely hard on producing our very own space inspired books which include front covers, back covers, blurbs and pictures to accompany all their beautiful writing throughout. We hope to be able to share them with our buddies this week.
In Maths this week we have been learning to make and use bar models to solve word problems. The children are being encouraged to work out what values they know and put these into the bar model which then helps them to identify the missing value which they need to work out. The children have worked hard on grasping this concept and it will support them as their learning continues in other areas of Maths.
Continuing with our space theme, we thoroughly enjoyed making rockets to help Beegu get back to her own planet. The children worked hard to ensure that all of the criteria were met for the rocket including ensuring it was warm, light and waterproof.
*At home task* With your child, look at the different materials that things are made from and discuss why specific materials are chosen for a purpose. Discuss why other materials just would not have worked or see if you could even come up with something that may have made a better choice and explain why!
