School Uniform

At Joydens Wood Schools we encourage all our pupils to wear the school uniform as it gives our school an identity and it gives the children a sense of belonging.

School uniform, including cardigans/sweatshirts and fleeces with the school logo can be ordered direct from Caseys Schoolwear in Sidcup by clicking here. Our uniform only has jumpers/fleeces/cardigans with the school logo on it as well as the polo shirts, however parents and carers can use unbranded clothing that matches our uniform (see below).

Caseys are school uniform specialists and have more than twenty years of experience in helping parents find the right garments for their children. All their staff are fully trained and able to advise you about sizes and styles suitable for your child. If you have any questions regarding school uniform for Joydens Wood, please contact David or Bridgette on 0208 850 8645 or email sales@caseysschoolwear.co.uk

Introduction

It is our school policy that all children wear school uniform when attending school, or when participating in a school-organised event outside normal school hours if representing the school.

Our Uniform

The uniform consists of:
  • Grey trousers, shorts, skirt (at knee length) or pinafore (at knee length)
  • White blouse or white school polo shirt (this can include with the logo on it, but this is not mandatory)
  • Bottle green school ‘V’ neck sweater, school sweatshirt, school fleece or school cardigan (these can include with the logo on it, but this is not mandatory)
  • Grey, white or black socks
  • Plain black shoes (not trainers)
  • Grey or black tights
  • Summer Dress or Playsuit (optional) can be of any suitable green/white check or stripe material at knee length.

The PE kit will consist of:
  • PE polo shirt in house colour (red/green/yellow or blue)
  • Plain black sports shorts – not cycling/form-fitting or too short
  • Plain black joggers
  • Black plimsolls or plain black trainers

School caps, PE bags and book bags are available to purchase from Caseys.

We prefer children to do indoor PE and gymnastics in bare feet as it supports better quality work and is safer for the children in apparatus. Trainers should be worn for outdoor work.

Aims & Objectives

Our policy on school uniform is based on the belief that school uniform:
  • promotes a sense of pride in the school;
  • engenders a sense of community and belonging towards the school;
  • is practical and smart;
  • identifies the children with the school;
  • prevents children from coming to school in fashion clothes that could be distracting in class;
  • makes children feel equal to their peers in terms of appearance;
  • is regarded as suitable wear for school and good value for money by most parents;
  • is designed with health and safety in mind.

Coats

Children will go out to play in damp weather and should bring a suitable shower proof coat to school.

This should be plain and not of an overly bright colour.

Footwear

There are many stairs in the school and therefore, in the interest of safety, the ruling for footwear is strict. High-heeled shoes are not acceptable, nor are shoes with open toes or sling backs please. We do require children to wear shoes and not boots (during the winter months, children can wear boots but must bring shoes to change into).

We prefer shoes to be black in colour and no trainers.

Jewellery

On health and safety grounds we do not allow children to wear jewellery in school. They may wear a watch that does not distract learning and cannot be used as a tool to communicate on.

We prefer children not to wear earrings to avoid any accidents, but if they do please ensure they are small gold or silver stud earrings with safety backs. Children are not permitted to take part in physical activity wearing earrings or a watch.

These are expected to be safely removed, stored and replaced independently for P.E. sessions.. When children go swimming they are not allowed to wear earrings.

Children are not permitted to wear make-up (this includes fake tanning products) or nail varnish or to have temporary tattoos as these can distract children from focusing on learning.

Curriculum Subjects

It is advisable for parents to provide a paint apron/shirt to protect clothing during activities such as art and design, design technology and science.

Hot Weather

During hot weather, children are encouraged to wear a cap or hat.

Sun protection should be applied before school, however, it should not be brought into school.

Hair

The school expects hair to be neat and not cut or presented in a manner that distracts from learning; long hair should be tied back during the school day. Hair accessories should not be overly large and should be in school colours.

The Role of Parents & Carers

We ask all parents and carers who send their children to our school to support the School Uniform Policy.

We believe that parents and carers have a duty to send their children to school correctly dressed and ready for their daily schoolwork. One of the responsibilities of parents/carers is to ensure that their child has the correct uniform, and that it is clean and in good repair.

The Role of the Local Committee

The Local Committee supports the Headteacher in implementing the School Uniform Policy.

It considers all representations from parents and carers regarding the uniform policy and liaises with the Headteacher to ensure that the policy is implemented fairly and with sensitivity.

It is the Local Committee Members’ responsibility to ensure that the school uniform meets all regulations concerning equal opportunities. Local Committee Members ensure that the School Uniform Policy helps children to dress sensibly, in clothing that is hardwearing, safe and practical.

Lost Property

ALL ITEMS OF CLOTHING SHOULD BE CLEARLY MARKED WITH THE CHILD’S FULL NAME.
LOST PROPERTY

The school will always endeavour to return named lost property to children. Unnamed items will be kept in a lost property storage box. Children can claim back property either before school, at lunchtime or at the end of each day.
