On Tuesday we had two Olympic Athletes visit our school- Richard Buck and Marylin Okoro. The children got to meet the athletes in assembly and heard all about their lives, their sport and their achievements. We even got to see their medals!
Every class had a PE lesson with the athletes in which they completed a challenging obstacle course and fast paced relay races! The children all enjoyed the day, describing it as “inspiring”, “exciting” and “challenging”.
We have a very enthusiastic and active School Council who meet every Friday lunchtime with Miss Harris. They are very proud of their role within the school and take their responsibilities very seriously. Please read on to find their first blog – written by themselves!
In a world where technology is used continuously and where children are exposed to the internet on a regular basis in many different forms, it is so important to ensure you keep your children safe when online. We have attached a webinar produced by Ofsted for parents that gives advice on how to keep your children safe online. Please also remember to book a place on the next Tricky Topics Workshop on Friday 23 March at 1.30pm where the focus will be ‘Online Safety’.
We are extremely lucky to have two Olympic athletes visiting our school.
During the morning of Tuesday 20 February, they will meet the children and lead an assembly where they will share their achievements and life experiences. They will talk about how they came to be athletes, what their training regime is like, how it felt to compete and win Olympic medals and what the children can do to follow their own sporting dreams! The rest of the day will involve each class having an exclusive PE lesson taught by the athletes. We are inviting all children to wear sportswear on this special day. This does not have to be the school PE kit.
We hope the children will really enjoy this exciting experience!
This week Year 2 have taken part in lots of learning opportunities around different stories as part of National Storytelling Week. This cumulated in an interactive storytelling workshop involving music at the end of the week.
As we will be celebrating Chinese New Year next week, please remember we have a Chinese themed lunch on Wednesday 7th February. The children will be able to enjoy: chicken breast battered balls, or battered Quorn balls, sweet & sour sauce, noodles and Chinese stir fried carrots. This will be followed by ice cream and toffee sauce.
On Wednesday Year 2 were lucky enough to take part in our first in house benchball tournament. All of the Year 2 classes were pitched against each other in a very competitive and exciting tournament. Read more to find out who won!
This week as a whole school we recorded a total of 1688 minutes read at home on Wednesday 24 January. This was through reading school reading books, children’s own books, books from the library, listening to talking books and from sharing books with family members. Let’s see if we can beat that total for this week!
Year 2 have been very busy this week. They have become architects and investigators. Sadly the roof to the Kings castle was beginning to crumble so the children had to predict and test which material would be most suitable to replace it. It turns out tin foil and cling film were not a sensible solution!
We are excited to launch our new Reading Engagement Scheme, ‘Buster’s Book Club’ in conjunction with the KM Charity. We have secured sponsorship from the Rotary Club in order to be able to share this fantastic initiative with you. All you need to do is total how many minutes your child reads for each Wednesday and record on the bookmark provided. Your child could win a range of exciting prizes including tickets to Pirate Adventure Golf at Bluewater, tickets to Leeds Castle or a visit from Mister Maker just for reading at home!
