Parent Workshop 2017/2018

Ensuring our parents are fully informed of all aspects of their child’s school life is of upmost importance. Therefore we tailor workshops and forums in response to our parents’/carers’ needs and wishes. Outlined below are the planned workshops/forums for academic year 2017-2018.

TERM 1 – 2017

  • Tuesday 12th September 8pm club sign up online
  • Wednesday 13th September 5.45pm ‘Meet the Teacher’  – Meet the teacher (no children allowed), your child’s class teacher will do a presentation in their classroom stating key dates, classroom organisation e.g. days for PE etc, and giving you an overview of specific skills for that term. There will be the opportunity to answer any questions informally after the presentation.
  • Tuesday 19th September 2.15pm and 5.45pm ‘Attendance and Punctuality’ – Mrs Clarke will be running our attendance workshop, discussing the importance of having high attendance and good punctuality. She will also be myth busting misconceptions around policies and procedures relating to this.
  • Wednesday 4th October 2.15pm ‘Parent Forum’– Mrs Adams will be running our first parent forum to informally discuss what is working well in our school and to discuss things that we may like to consider implementing/adapting.
  • Wednesday 11th October 8.00-11.30am Individual Photos – Siblings from 8.00-8.45am.
  • Tuesday 17th October 2.15 and 5.45pm ‘Play time is brain time’ – Mrs Parkin will be leading a workshop on ‘The purpose of play’ (EYFS and Year 1 Parents welcome)
  • Wednesday 18th October – Parent consultation bookings go live at 8pm.
  • Thursday 19th October – Friday 3rd Nov Orders for personalised school calendar (£)
  • New Parent Tours for Reception Intake 2018-2019 – Every Friday at 1.45pm, prospective parents are welcome to attend our class tea.

Term 2 – 2018

  • Friday 3rd Nov Last day to orders a personalised school calendar (£)
  • Tuesday 7th November Parents Consultations 9am – 7pm – Meet your child’s class teacher to discuss how they are settling into school and how they have progressed during their first term.
  • Tuesday 14th November ‘Maths Attack!’ (Part 1) 2.15pm and 5.45pm- Miss Barnett will be exploring how we teach Mathematical concepts from EYFS to Year 2. This is part 1 of 3 workshops.
  • Tuesday 21st November ‘Fantastic Phonics!’ (Part 1) 2.15pm and 5.45pm- Miss Armitt will be exploring how we teach phonics, activities you can do at home and supporting your knowledge of how phonics is used in reading and writing. This is part 1 of 3 workshops.
  • Thursday 23rd November ‘Fussy Eaters’ 1pm (Part 1) Mrs Quinn, our chef will be doing a hands on cooking class on fun, easy recipes that even the most fussiest of eaters love! There are only limited spaces available so hurry and book your place! (£5 per class or book both sessions for £8)
  • Friday 8th December 1.30pm Tricky Topics Part 1 ‘Making Safe Choices!’ – discussing how we teach our children to be street wise and make safe choices.
  • New Parent Tours for Reception Intake 2018-2019 – Every Friday at 1.45pm until 1st December, prospective parents are welcome to attend our class tea.

Term 3 – 2018

  • Friday 23rd  March Tricky Topics Part 2 ‘Be Share Aware!’ – discussing how we teach our children to be safe online.
  • Tuesday 27th March Year 2 Parents only: SATs 6.45pm  – Miss Hately will be explaining how we undertake SATs and how you can support your child at home.

Term 5 – 2018

  • Wednesday 18th April Year 2 ‘Meet the Teacher’ 5.45pm – Meet the teacher (no children allowed), your child’s class teacher will do a presentation in their classroom giving you an overview of specific skills for that term. There will be the opportunity to answer any questions informally after the presentation.
  • Friday 27th April ‘Parent Forum’ 1.45pm– Mrs Adams will be running a parent forum to informally discuss what is working well in our school and to discuss things that we may like to consider implementing/adapting.
  • Friday 4th May Tricky Topics Part 3 ‘Pants are Private!’ – discussing how we approach difficult conversations with children to ensure they are safe.
  • Tuesday 8th May Supporting Your Child’s Transition into their Next Year 2.15pm and 5.45pm Mrs Parkin and Miss Barnett will share how to ensure your child is prepared for the next academic year. The workshop will focus on Reading, Writing and Mathematics in Years 1 and 2.
  • Wednesday 9th May ‘Fun Healthy Recipes’ 1.15pm Mrs Quinn, our chef will be doing a hands on cooking class full of recipes that are jammed packed with fruits/vegetables but are carefully designed so your child doesn’t even notice! (£5 per class) limited spaces are available, so hurry and book your place!

Term 6 – 2018

  • Wednesday 6th June New EYFS Parents Networking Meeting 6.30-8.00pm – this is a great opportunity to meet members of staff, other parents and ask questions. Our Chef, Mrs Quinn, will provide tasters from our menu and refreshments will be available. This is for parents only, no children.
  • Tuesday 12th June New EYFS Parents Welcome Meeting 9.30-11.30am – meet our team, find out key information about our school and find out about how you can successfully transition your child into school. We will give out start dates, times and home visits. This is for parents only, we are unable to accommodate children at this meeting.
  • Monday 9th July New EYFS Stay and play session 2-2.45pm – for you and your child to meet and talk with staff and parents whilst the children get to know their new environment and friends.
  • Wednesday 11th July EYFS Story session 2-2.30pm – for your child, a chance for the children to spend a short amount of time in school alone whilst they get used to their surroundings. We are inviting parents to stay on site in the school hall whilst this takes place.
  • Thursday 12th July EYFS Stay and play session 2-2.45pm – for your child, a chance for the children to spend a short amount of time playing in school alone and sharing a story with their class teacher. We are inviting parents to stay on site in the school hall whilst this takes place.
  • Monday 9th – 13th July Year 2 Transition Week (details to be provided by Joydens Wood Junior School)
  • Tuesday 10th July Parents Consultations 9am – 7pm Parents to be given their child’s report and discuss their progress for the year and their next steps for the forthcoming academic year. Please ensure you arrive 10minutes before your appointment to read your child’s report before your meeting.
